NT Young Rural Achiever Awards

13 to 25 year old Young Territorians only

The NT Young Rural Achiever Award is presented as part of the Freds Pass Rural Show on Saturday, 13th May 2017. It recognises the talents and achievements of young people in rural industries and communities. Through this Award young people are encouraged to develop their skills in a range of areas relating to rural life.

Applicants must be Northern Territory residents and aged 13 – 25 years as at 5 May 2017.

Junior category – ages 13 to 17 years

  • 1st Place for Junior Category – $400 + Sash + Bouquet + Trophy + Swag
  • 2nd Place for Junior Category – $150 + Sash + Bouquet + Trophy + $50 Voucher
  • 3rd Place for Junior Category – $100 + Sash + Bouquet + Trophy

Senior category – ages 18 to 25 years

  • 1st Place for Senior Category – $500 + Sash + Bouquet + Trophy + Swag
  • 2nd Place for Senior Category – $200 + Sash + Bouquet + Trophy + $100 Voucher
  • 3rd Place for Senior Category – $125 + Sash + Bouquet + Trophy

Previous winners of Junior category can no longer enter Junior category but are encouraged to enter Senior category. Applicants must submit a resume with their application. Refer to the Entry form in the Program for details and guidelines on areas the resume must include.

Applicants must be available on the following dates:

  • Thursday 11 May at 5.30 pm
    Freds Pass Reserve for the public speaking section of the competition
  • Friday 12 May from 8 am to 2 pm
    Freds Pass Reserve for judging on all core and elective events – you need to be suitably dressed for the assessments (ie boots, jeans, shirt and hat)
  • Saturday 13 May at 1.45 pm
    Freds Pass Reserve for the official opening of the show (you need to be suitably dressed for the Official Opening)
  • Three hour Show involvement
    The Rural Achiever Coordinator will contact you prior to the Show to arrange suitable times.

Core and Elective Subjects

Core Subjects (13-17 years)

  • Motor maintenance
  • Chemical safety and usage
  • Cattle Judging
  • 3 hours Show involvement
  • Public speaking (three minutes) on the following topic:

“What do you see as some of the greatest challenges facing Northern beef producers today and how can we position our industry for prosperity into the future?”

Elective Subjects (13-17 years)

  • 3 min interview on agriculture topic of own choice.

Core Subjects (18-25 years)

  • Farm vehicles, operation and safety
  • Chemical safety and usage
  • Tractors
  • Weeds and pastures
  • Cattle judging
  • 3 hours Show involvement
  • Public speaking (5 minutes) on the following topic:

    “What do you see as some of the greatest challenges facing Northern beef producers today and how can we position our industry for prosperity into the future?”

    Elective Subjects (18 – 25 years)

    • 5 min interview on agriculture topic of own choice.
